Coaching Philosophy

There are many different approaches to workplace coaching. Understandably, it can sometimes be confusing choosing a coach or deciding which model of coaching is likely to be the most worthwhile for your or your organisation's needs.

Some types of coaching focus on a particular task, such as improving public speaking skills or the effectiveness of team meetings. This kind of coaching is fairly targeted, self-contained and can be limited in its reach.

Where there are broader challenges or issues which arise, such as leadership dilemmas, managing through periods of change, complex team or group dynamics, or questions relating to role or career transition, a different kind of coaching is required.

Many coaching models work by tackling areas like these using tools and techniques that offer a structured and specific solution. This can be productive, but tends to be focussed only on the particular issue at that time.

Marion works using a deeper, systemic approach, looking with her clients beneath and beyond the issues at hand, to identify themes that are ‘hidden’ as well as apparent. Using renowned and well-established Tavistock methodologies, her aim is to facilitate change by unearthing and developing her clients' own knowledge, wisdom and skills. Rather than providing short-term solutions, the result is ongoing self-awareness and long-lasting transformation.

Marion's approach is based on enabling her clients to perform to the best of their abilities, in the contexts in which they find themselves.  She works alongside her clients in a collaborative, explorative and empathetic way. When necessary, Marion is nevertheless unafraid to challenge assumptions and patterns of behaviour, as well as facilitating a broader perspective on the issues arising. In this way, she helps her clients reach sustained, impactful learning and change, leading to significant personal and professional growth.

Marion works with individuals in a one-to-one setting, as well as with leadership 'couples', teams and groups. She primarily coaches face-to-face, but also works remotely as necessary.
